A figure brimming over with all the competing identities and responsibilities that are bursting to escape from her body, the Art-Mother-Monster is becoming something of a mascot for HOWL readers.

A ferocious representation of the juggle between motherhood and art, domestic reality and creative aspiration, she splits herself into multitudes to be all she needs and wants to be.

Created by artist and illustrator Alice Lindstrom for the back cover of HOWL Issue 02, this image was an original, intricate paper cutout with painted highlights, which has been digitally scanned and placed over a black background.
